If we call Him Allah, will we finally have peace?

Apparently a priest in Amsterdam has just advocated calling God, Allah. Is this the ultimate in "Can't we all just get along?" Very scary stuff. Perhaps we should just call Him Baal and sacrifice our children to him. Oh wait, Allah does seem to require child sacrifice, so maybe it is the same thing as calling God, Baal. Wasn't there something in the Bible about worshipping Baal/Allah that got the Israelites in trouble? I think I'll stick to worshipping the one, true GOD!!

Great (if somewhat irreverent) article by Doug Giles here. Washington Post article on the actual event here.

Getting my hair straightened

O.K. After much going back and forth, I decided to get my hair straightened. It's just getting too hard to blow dry and straight iron.

Since I couldn't afford to do it at a salon, off I went to the beauty school. It all went well and I'm happy with the results...

Except it took SIX HOURS. Apparently I have very resistant hair.
I'll have to get a much better "After" shot.

New Blogger

I just found Lynnae's blog! She said bloggers like me encouraged her to start up! Very cool. Welcome to the world of sharing your life with everyone who cares to read about it.

Wild Rivers

In my never-ending endeavor to spend my summer by water, reading a book I found myself accompanying Darrenn and the middle school group to Wild Rivers. They ran off and played while I "watched the stuff".

I'm telling you this summer has been the best reading summer EVER!!

Here are some pics taken by Dawn Bambrick (the good mom who went on all the rides.)

94-year-old gets Masters Degree

I love this story: A 94-year-old great, great grandmother has just received her masters degree in medical science - no easy feat!!

It reminds me of a letter to Dear Abby in which a middle-aged woman sought advice about whether or not she should go back to college to become a doctor. She said it would take 12 years, then asked, "Do you know how old I'll be in 12 years?" Abby replied, "How old will you be in 12 years if you don't get your degree?"

Gotta love that wisdom.

Bad for America, Good for the Democrats

I hardly ever get political, even though it is a passion of mine. However this particular exchange, noted in the Washington Post on July 30th, really blew me away for the honesty betrayed.

House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) said Monday that a strongly positive report on progress on Iraq by Army Gen. David Petraeus likely would split Democrats in the House and impede his party's efforts to press for a timetable to end the war. . . .

Many Democrats have anticipated that, at best, Petraeus and U.S. ambassador to Iraq Ryan Crocker would present a mixed analysis of the success of the current troop surge strategy, given continued violence in Baghdad. But of late there have been signs that the commander of U.S. forces might be preparing something more generally positive. Clyburn said that would be "a real big problem for us."

Did you catch that? A positive report on the Iraq war would be "a real big problem" for Democrats. I can only assume failure in Iraq would be welcome news to these Democratic leaders. So if America is losing the war, the Democrats are cheering! Huh?!? Really? They really want to say positive news for America is bad for them? They might think that, but hearing those words come their of their mouths should definitely give them pause...

Whether you are for or against this war, I would shudder if I found myself in the position of cheering for bad news. I hope all Americans ultimately want America to be successful, but it seems the honest comment of this Representative betrays his real agenda.
