Our pastor is really challenging us to get serious about our Christian walk.
The latest thing he discussed was fasting. My first thought was, no. I mean I know it's in the Bible and all, but really. I can't skip a meal and I CAN'T go without food for an entire day. Yet whenever I respond with, "God you can't possibly be asking me to do this..." I know it is from Him.
So Tim and I have decided to fast from dinner on Thursday to dinner on Friday.
We are doing this simply out of obedience to God and a desire to put our Christian faith into action. But I have also decided that I want to fast that day and pray for our country. God has favored our nation as we have honored Him. So now my desire is to humble myself, not asking for any particular outcome, per se, and pray. He is sovereign and I want whatever He wants.
I would encourage any of you who are concerned with the direction of our country, who care about who our next leader is, or who just want to lift up this great country and pray for the hearts and minds of our fellow citizens to join me. It doesn't have to be at the same time as us, but consider doing it before the election.

Great idea! I will join you in fasting, but I will do it on Monday.
You might like a book I read a while ago, (well I don't think I finished it, but it is really good), it is called A Hunger for God by John Piper. It is about "desiring God through fasting and prayer."
Congratulations for stepping up your faith - a group of us already have a "Fasting on Friday" going every Friday - so I will suggest that we add praying for our country to our concerns.
If you really want to step up your obedience - you can do it every Friday and join us!
I know what a challenge this will be for you -
I was struck by the word Obedience that you and Tim are doing it out of obedience.. that is so awesome.. sometimes obedience does not mean comfort or ease or even hapiness but it means more than we can imagine.. I am praying for mercy for the country..
Michelle - I am right there with you on the fasting. Carolina, Lorenzo, Gabi and I have been sleeping without a pillow as an election sacrifice for weeks now, and whenever I wake up, so uncomfortable at night, I am reminded to pray for our country. Trust me, there's been a lot of extra prayer involved here, and that can't be a bad thing!
I will also be fasting, Monday and Tuesday, on one full meal a day, for the outcome of this election.
