Will You Marry Me?

O.K., so this post isn't technically about me. But I wanted to share my friend's happiness. This weekend, my friend Dave, got engaged to a fantastic girl named Julie. I am very happy for him!! He has had a tough last few years and he deserves something wonderful.

Congratulations. Can't wait to meet her.

READ THIS BOOK!

I LOVE history and any book about history captures my attention. This one is ESPECIALLY good. It is America: The Last Best Hope by William Bennett. He does an amazing job of bringing the past to life and making it real. Quick - Andrew Johnson, good or bad president? (Some of you are saying Andrew who? Do you mean Jackson?) I now know the answer and why! (Bad - he was very racist and sought to impose harsh penalties on the South after the Civil War in direct violation of Abraham Lincoln's wishes. Those policies had disastrous effects on the nation for next 100 or so years!)

Anyways, if you love history and especially if you don't, read this book! I don't want to give away anything, but the good guys usually end up winning!

Curvy vs. Skinny

Dennis Prager talked yesterday about Renee Zellweger and her weight. He used it as a launch point to say, When did gaunt and emaciated become attractive?

I know in my head that curvy looks better, yet if given the choice, I'd take gaunt... Why is that? I don't think I'm alone. What is going on with women that we prefer the preteen boy look to Marilyn Monroe?

Thoughts? Is this atractive??

Fur Elise

Chandler is learning Fur Elise on piano and I hear her practicing right now. Every time I hear this song, I sing "for my dumb brother" at the end. I don't know why, but I figure it's from a movie or something. I mentioned it to my mom and she reminded me that it's from a McDonalds commercial from the 80's. So YouTube to the rescue.

I love this commercial!

This is the police reports from the local Pismo Beach newspaper. I think the writer is having a bit of fun reporting the most inane things. I wonder if he throws stuff in just to see if anyone is reading this. This is especially true in the last one!

Lately, I've been in a blogging funk. I just didn't have anything to say. So I thought I'd post what I've been doing with my free time now that school is out! I am still about 2 years behind, maybe I'll catch up soon...

My political persuasion

I really don't blog politics much, even though I love politics. I guess I just don't want to bore anyone with my fascinations, but I found this poll and here are the results:

I actually don't agree with the results, but I went and retook the test and marked the same answers. Except for the Libertarian lable, I agree with little else. And I'm only a partial Libertarian anyways. So I didn't think the quiz was super helpful, but it's always fun to see what these things say.

We found Nemo!

So, yesterday, the second day the new Submarine ride was open at Disneyland, I decided it would be fun to try to check it out.

We got there at 7:00, an hour before the park opened and were very close to the front of the line. You can see the line behind Chandler in this photo. It goes all the way back to California Adventure! Unfortunately, hotel guests were allowed to enter at 7:00 and so we watched hundreds of people head off to Nemo before us!

We were told the wait would be an hour and forty-five minutes, and they were exactly right! It felt long to the girls, but I didn't think it was awful. The woman working the ride assured me the wait would be worth it!

So down we headed. These are the original subs. I guess they wanted to replace them, but the current regulations would have made it impossible. So they grandfathered in the originals, built in the 50's for an apparently much smaller population. You can see it's a tight fit getting down there!

The beginning looks just like I remembered it! There was the concrete wall with the muscles and starfish. I'm sure they were the originals! But for the girls, they were only 3 and 1 the last time they rode, so it was an all-new experience to them.


I thought it was definitely better than the ride it replaced. They have managed install the animated creatures into the under sea environment. Chandler captured it all on video, but for now, I can't get it to play...

I can't wait to ride again, but I think I'll wait for the lines to go down!

I know Bobby Marchessault reads my blog, so here's my "Happy Birthday" to you! I already sang to you on your cell phone and since that was painful enough, I'll just say a simple "Happy Birthday". I miss you. Have a FANTASTIC day.

Man in Wheelchair Stuck to Front of Semi Grill

O.K. Had to report this one.

This poor man was crossing the street when the light changed. The semi truck nudged his chair around and the handles became stuck in the grill. The man ended up being pushed by the truck for maybe 4 miles at speeds up to 50 mph!

He's fine, just really scared.

Can you imagine??? I would be scared to DEATH!

Still looking for the next story I want to report on: The United Teachers of Los Angeles held a rally to support gay rights. While yelling, "Teach respect" they had on t-shirts that said, "Buck Fush". I think the irony was lost on them.
