I didn't vote for Obama.
Shocking, I know.
I know many Christians voted for him thinking he would bring some of the things Jesus promoted to America. They saw him as an agent for change, certainly. That's how he branded himself. Many thought that "change" would include more help for the most downtrodden.
Think again.
I read this article and it certainly made me angry. Obama wants to eliminate the tax deduction for wealthy givers. These are the people that give 40% of the total donations according to the WSJ. He believes this would bring the government at least $11 billion (gotta pay for those AIG bonuses somehow...). We know that the very wealthy can take the hit. They can most certainly afford to pay more taxes. I'm not grieving for them. The problem is this: if a dollar spent on a new car brings the same tax benefit as a dollar spent on Habitat for Humanity, the dollar is going toward the car more often than not.
I believe Obama knows it would hurt charities and he is fine with that. After all, Obama promised transformative change. I don't think people heard what he was saying. He didn't say he was going to make America better; he said he was going to TRANSFORM it. Well here we go. This is what he meant. In the old days, churches and charities served the people. Under Obama, the government will decide what to do with the dollars you earn. Help the poor, maybe. Buy green vehicles for government workers, absolutely. Pay for abortions all over the world, already in process.
Even the most liberal groups are screaming about this. They know what Obama knows, this is an end to their good works. And if you have a favorite charity or church you support, say good-bye to that as well. They simply cannot take the hit of reduced giving.
So, Christian, how does this sit? I guess Obama's just following the dictate of Jesus, "Take your neighbor's money at the end of a gun and with the threat of jail, and use it for whatever you feel is best."
Oh, wait. Jesus didn't say that.

When I think of the Christians I know who voted for Obama it literally breaks my heart. To be able to be so blinded by a man and his promises and so blinded to what the Bible says regarding it is so, so sad. I have a friend who actually ended up leaving her church because so many of the people there were voting for him and they couldn't understand why she wasn't. She thought, what is my church teaching if they can't see what he is really about? But good churches and good teaching or not, people are still being fooled. Scary, scary days we live in. People are going to get what they voted for. Change.....for the worse!
I didn't vote for him either. And I said (and still say) that this is going to play out over time in a very different way than people expected. I also said that God had a purpose for allowing him to be voted in and I still trust that God is in control. What gets me is that as it is already playing out differently people are still so blinded. I'm not surprised, I'm just tired of hearing it or reading about it.
I LOVE reading your blog though!
Michelle: I am so glad you wrote this post. This has been on my mind for a while. I know the Bible says even the very elect will be deceived, I believe that is what is happening today. I watch TBN faithfully and support them, but I have a problem with certain Ministers who make the remark " I love our President and Pray God to bless him. Instead of saying I pray for him that Your Will be in his heaet for America. It's sad !
( Continued ) I believe in these times, Men of God should be saying, don't look to Washington for your help, but unto Heaven as the Bible says. There is only one source from which our help and blessings flow ! The truth is, these problems, this government will pass away. Only God and His Word will live forever. I am glad I voted for God as my ruler of my life. God Bless !
