Dangerous Book for Boys

I saw this book reviewed in the Wall Street Journal and I had to blog about it!

This book is aimed at boys around the age of 10 and tries to impart all the knowledge the authors feel boys need to know. It is an instruction manual on making paper airplanes, skipping stones, building go-carts and tree houses, playing poker and it even has a section on girls! It is definitely an un-television, un-video game kind of book.

According to the WSJ, "The unapologetic message is that boys need a certain amount of danger and risk in their lives, and that there are certain lessons that need to be passed down from father to son, man to man. The implication is that in contemporary society basic rules of maleness aren't being handed off as they used to be."

It is certainly not politically correct and unequivocally states that boys are hard-wired differently from girls. You know that's gonna get them some grief!

So for all of you with sons, what do you think? I think it sounds great.

There is also a FANTASTIC video showing how to use this book. It's only a couple of minutes; I encourage you to check it out.

Great stuff, I sure remember making go carts, putting engines on them and racing them on the street - my Mom would have killed me if she knew half the dangerous things I did. Can hardly wait to help Josh try some of these things out!

I am so getting this book... These are the types of books I will read. Not to mention the really cool video! But, I am left to wonder why a mom with 2 GIRLS would be reading this book?

Sounds like a secular version of Wild At Heart. I can not wait to read it.
